Obama on War in Afghanistan

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

“The Afghan government needs to do more. But we have to understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan. And I believe this has to be our central focus, the central front, on our battle against terrorism,”

“I think one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made strategically after 9/11 was to fail to finish the job here, focus our attention here. We got distracted by Iraq,”

If you’ve been watching the news lately then you are aware that the situation in Afghanistan is worsening and our troops are constantly dying. With Barack Obama going overseas and getting first hand knowledge of the dire need to send more troops to Afghanistan you can bet that if he is elected Afganistan will become a major focus of ours.

This saddens me because we have been at war in some capacity  for the past 7 years. It’s as if war is inevitable to our leaders. Sadly because some do not agree with our government’s tactics they take out that anger and frustration on our troops who are in essence protecting the very freedom of us to be able to disagree with our government and not be stoned; its still like that in some countries.

I would like to see us bring our troops home, all our troops home and work on stabilizing life here in America. If we keep going around waging war, soon there will be no Super Power to protect. Remember the fall of Germany and Hitler in World War II was that they tried to fight a war on both fronts and were fortunately toppled because of this mistake. Let us not make the same mistakes.
