Tupac Shakur Interview on EVERYTHING!

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

If you didn’t already know I am a student of Tupac Shakur. I don’t love words like fan because if I ever met one of these brothers I would be far from a  groupie. I would rather engage brothers in a conversation and learn from them and hopefully they would learn from me.

With that said, Tupac is one of the most phenomenal men of our time. Not because he was a self proclaimed “thug”. Not because he is this huge hip-hop icon or his Hollywood appeal in movies. No Tupac represents the good and bad of the black male. He represents the struggle between street life and intellect, he couples the two together because they are not far from one another. He showed us love and respect for black women while also showing but also launched many contradictory attacks on black women. The complexities of this Revolutionary soldier go on and on but I found a great video with him discussing then in 1995 the woes that we are facing here in America in 2008. Check it out!

Yves St. Laurent Dies at age 71

laurent

Yves St. Laurent died Sunday night at his home in Paris due to a long time illness. The man will be remembered for his revolutionary contributions to the fashion game. He along with Christain Dior and Chanel made sure that Paris would forever be known as the fashion capital of the world.

Gotta pay hommage where hommage is due! My man kept the threads look real fly, I’ll have to add a pair of glasses into the summer wardrobe in his honor. Here are a few shots of the flavor Yves brought to the game, R.I.P.!

nas coming soon

I have mixed feelings about Nas and this album name change. Like the message could have been dope and it still can be, but all of the controversy is drowning out the substance. Like the reasoning behind the name change was so obvious. I mean before you decided to name your album something as controversial as “Nigger” you didn’t think that record labels and the media would condemn such a title. Was it not forseeable that there would be a large amount of backlash and possible boycotts of such a derogatory, divisive term. Of course these obstacles were there, however a well thought out plan would have found strategic ways to circumvent these concerns and bring a powerful message to those who may have otherwise not been privy to it.

Such a politically incorrect title filled with substance could have broken new barriers and opened up an intelligent discourse surrounding race relations, racial slurs and the institutionalized hegemony faced by people of different ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds. Instead now it is labeled as a publicity stunt and the energy is lost, but i have hopes that the art and the message behind the art will save the day. Call it wishful thinking, BE A NIGGA TOO!

Pardon me

Monday, May 12th, 2008

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.
“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Matthew 24: 6-11

I remember being a little boy and it was snowing in April and my mother quoted that the bible said when the end was near we would not know the difference between the seasons. Now I am far from suggesting that the world is about to end tomorrow but I was drawn to this verse last night via a Common song called Heaven Somewhere. Maybe I have to much free time on my hands but I surf the internet an awful lot and the news gets more disturbing by the day. Wars and rumors of war; are we not in Iraq and some folks are trying to push us into Iran while we watch beautiful young men and women die for unjust causes. Are people in Haiti not creating a revolution because they have no access to food and bare necessities for survival. Today I read that 50 students have been found in the wreckage of a high school in China after a powerful earthquake, and over 7600 are feared dead throughout the country. The economy is spiraling downwards, people are losing their jobs with no new work in sight or means to provide food for their families.

All of this despair would make me think we would get closer to God and pray for a true blessing. Yet the word says you will be hated, and that many will turn astray. While watching Forrest Gump, the handicapped sergeant summed it up. Where is Jesus now, why would he let me live this way. This is the way people look at you who choose to believe in such tough times. And then others in such despair turn to those who claim to profess the word of God. Millions of viewers turn into youtube fanatic preachers, who spew venom and ask for money preying on people’s fears and using the word to sound as an authority. Don’t ask me why I brought this message to you today, I just wanted to share my thoughts and think objectively about the times we are living in. Be careful during these times of trials and tribulation to not fall victim to false hope. Keep your faith in God for he predicted that rough times would come. Remember that if you ask you shall be given (sometimes you gotta keep asking, I know I do lol). Peace and Grace be unto you.

Being my bloodline is one with the divine, in time brother you will discover the light.

THE LIES
By Ma’at

Fuck this country so hard it bleeds the wealth and prosperity of your forefathers
Inseminate your mind with limitless understanding and watch your seeds grow
The revolution will not come easily but it will come
Over and over again until
New birth
A new age
This county was built with on the foundation of REVOLUTION!!!

Hypocrites!!
Each framer more faced then the last
But at the core of their new country…..
“ We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,…… and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,”
Our being white male slave owners…..
Not there white wives
Not their male nigger slaves
And sure as hell not fucking me
I was good enough to rape
My security taken from me, after my husband was taken from me, my father taken from me, my children taken from me… he took the only thing he knew I still had that he could physically take

Surprise Mother fucker
My spirit is stronger than you can imagine
My back forged with the strength of generations of matriarchs, kings, queens, family, unity
You can not take my legacy
It runs through my veins, my children’s veins, my children’s children’s

At the risk of sounding ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by feelings of love. -Che Guevara
