Flint Police Target Males with Saggy Pants (code word for black)

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

I’m wondering if there is any real crime in Flint. Ofcourse I know the answer is to this question is yes so then the next question becomes  “do the cops in Flint not have more to worry about than the harm of saggy jeans”. Who hires these idiots, everyday people are being murdered, raped and a host of other violent crimes and you want to harrass people who wear their pants sagging.

It’s indecent and immoral, ok I hear you but what about the drugs being sold on the streets of Flint, the armed robberies, crimes that actually affect the well being of our communities. Make those crimes your priority not saggy jeans which is no more than a tacky fashion statement that I myself used to partake in.

Unless the real reason behind this saggy jeans thing is more remniscent of the broad view of racial profiling. The broad definition allows that you utilize race and other factors; ie. geography, dress, location, age and other factors to profile certain individuals. People who don the style of baggy, saggy jeans are more likely than not, young black males so this would give the police ammunition to approach young black males. Why? Because they fit the description and by wearing these saggy jeans, they are breaking the law.

So maybe the police chief has bigger hopes in mind. Maybe while taking these young black men off the streets for such a petty crime they will find drugs or some type of other criminal activity afoot during their harassment of these males. Just something to ponder!

Michigan police chief: Wear saggy pants, get arrested Flint’s top cop calls it ‘immoral self-expression,’ but others fear racial implications By BRYN MICKLE Newhouse News Service Published on: 06/27/08

This city’s new police chief is saying no to crack.

Interim Flint Police Chief David R. Dicks announced this week that officers will begin arresting people wearing pants or shorts that sag too low, exposing rear ends. “This immoral self-expression goes beyond free speech,” Dicks said in a statement released Thursday.”It rises to the crime of indecent exposure/disorderly persons.

” It’s a style that irks many — a few cities nationwide have outlawed the rear-revealing pants (the Atlanta City Council proposed a ban amid much debate, but the plan was ultimately tabled). However, the order also raises serious questions about how it would be enforced, whether it disproportionately targets young black men and whether ultra-low riders should be considered constitutionally protected.

Is Dicks going too far?

Greg Gibbs, an American Civil Liberties Union attorney in Flint, said how people wear their clothing is a form of expression but cautions that not all of those forms are protected by the Constitution.

“The issue is: Does it violate the First Amendment?” Gibbs asked.

Some Flint residents are all for busting those who go bottoms out. “It’s overdue,” said Sam Berry, 73, of Flint.

Gwendolyn R. Allen, 72, of Flint agreed: “It’s so disgusting … It’s disgraceful.” Claude Carter, 49, of Flint sees the issue differently, though. He said wearing pants in that manner is a fad — not a crime. “I see young and old wearing their pants that way,” said Carter. The crackdown on buttocks is an apparent response to “significant” complaints from citizens, according to Dicks. Under the chief’s orders, any sworn officer who sees “sagging/exposing buttocks” will have probable cause to make an arrest under the city’s disorderly person ordinance — a misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and three months in jail.

Flint NAACP President Frances Gilcreast is no fan of the style but worries about police focusing on young black men.

“My concern is how (the policy) will be applied equitably,” Gilcreast said. Some Flint police officers, however, aren’t too sure how they will enforce it. “What about ‘plumber’s crack’?” said Keith Speer, president of the Flint Police Officers Association. In the past, Speer said, officers would issue warnings if too much skin was showing but reserved the handcuffs for full moons. “Most of the time, if they’re wearing sagging pants, they’re also wearing boxers,” he said. Memo notwithstanding, Speer doesn’t expect any big changes in how officers handle the issue. “It’s like issuing a memo telling officers to enforce the law,” Speer said. “Are we going to get a memo every time somebody complains?”

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Phillippians 2: 1-5

TGIF, I have just been reminiscing on things from my childhood all week. Shout out to Family Matters back in the day, that show brought me so much joy on Friday evenings. I thought Urkel was funny but I saw more of myself in Stephan. hahah. So we were keeping up with the 5 C’s all week and now we are at the final one. But here is what I have learned at my summer job, you gotta recap before you can teach something new to make sure folks remember. So Monday we had the Comforter, Tuesday we had the Confronter, Wednesday was the Challenger, and Thursday was the Counselor. So what is Friday you ask, The Celebrator!

Finally we have someone who celebrates with us, encourages us and is just as excited by what we do as we are. The celebrator is very essential because at times you can feel so alone even when you are achieving great heights. It is nice to have someone appreciate your worth and not be afraid to share that worth with you. God celebrates with us, he celebrates for us and through us. We will all celebrate together one day when we party it up in heaven. Until then let’s continue to affect each others lives in the most positive ways so that we can enjoy heaven right here on Earth. Now all week I have spoken about who is a one of the 5 C’s for me, we should be so thankful to have such people in our lives. But we have to engage ourselves to be one if not all of these C’s in other people’s lives. Peace and Grace be unto you!

It’s a celebration!

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the spirit the things of the spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6        “Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord “and not a God far away? Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?” declares the Lord “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 23: 23-24

Anybody remember that episode from the Cosby’s when Cliff screams out CHALLENGE!!!!! I just remember the challenge part, I really don’t remember the rest of the episode but today’s C is the Challenger. Another component of the 5 C’s, but this one keeps us on our toes. We all have dreams, goals and aspirations. Sometimes there are people in our lives who are already reaching some of the goals we wish to obtain or they know our goals and they continuously check up on us to make sure we are doing what we need to do. When I think of a challenger I think of a close brother of mine CT. The man just graduated with his MBA, has a great job traveling the country and he is continuously meeting new heights. Not only am I able to watch him soar and quite frankly do his thing but he is also the one who is always pushing me to achieve my own goals. When I was in undergrad it was annoying because I was slacking on my potential so at that point he was my challenger and confronter. But today I respect it because his challenges make me rise to the occasion.

Of course God challenges us, he challenges us everyday. In fact I believe that when we are going through our most troubling times, he is challenging us. Challenging us to remain faithful to his existence and principles even though we can not see him. The above scripture is a challenge to me, words to make me better. We have a choice to be of the flesh or of the spirit, to be of the word or of the world. To see those who are spiritually minded and live in peace is a challenge, a goal for us to reach. And since God is everywhere he is always challenging us and he sees when we rise to the occasion when we are slacking. Today let’s e thankful for the challengers in our lives, life’s like a competition, lets win this race. Peace and Grace be unto you!

Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.

Pardon me

We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busy bodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. 2 Thessalonians 3: 11 - 15

Point of clarity because a few people got at me yesterday. I was not saying that V Cape The legend does not go to church, I was saying he doesn’t call much. Negative minds, LOL! But that leads us right into today’s C. The Confronter! The Confronter is a very crucial person in our lives because they hold mirrors up to our actions. They hold these mirrors and they are not afraid to tell us what it is that we are doing wrong in our lives. We all need a reality check and we all need someone who is not overly critical however they are not afraid to be brutally honest with us about our short comings. My moms is my Confronter. And when she goes in, man it could be over the phone, in person either way she is going to speak her mind. But it’s with love and it is only because our Confronters see our true potential and wish to see us reach that goal.

Clearly our creator is our Confronter as well. In fact since he knows everything that we have done and how we are going to play it out. He holds possibly the largest mirror up before us. You can fool everyone but it is impossible to fool God. In the above scripture he is confronting us on being idle.  He tells others to not even associate with us because of our actions, so that we know that what we are doing is not approved of. But notice the love he speaks with. Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. Those words right there show that we have been confronted, we know right from wrong and if we continue to act in such a way we shall be ignored. But not hated, we should be warned as a brother because we are family and our Confronter only wants the best for us. If that makes sense. Take time in understanding the Confronter in your life, they are only there because they want to make you better. Peace and Grace be unto you!

Dreams do come true. First by prayer, second by determination, and third by education with action.

Iraqi councilman kills U.S. soldiers

Officials: Iraqi councilman kills U.S. soldiers

Do we really need any other reason to get the hell out of Iraq. The Iraqi’s do not respect us and we continue to lose valuable American lives. Please someone tell me why this Iraqi official fired upon U.S. Troops.

While we may not like our government at times, and we may not like the strategies that they employ we must support our troops. Innocent men and women are dying all in the name of weapons of mass destruction that never existed. The Iraqi’s are tired of us being there, we really need to stop trying to police the world and spend some of our tax dollars on making it safer here at home. I’M DISGUSTED!

Ice - T Responds to Soulja boy

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

I was shocked that Soulja boy responded the way that he did. It shows a lack of respect for the older generation and leaders of Hip-Hop. I mean does Soulja Boy really think that he makes good music, like noone will remember this dude next year. And his response sounds like a immature little boy, BEAT IT!!!!

Here’s How The Whole Thing Started…

Here is Soulja boy’s response.

Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be. He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song. He had all of America rapping this summer. If that ain’t Hip Hop then what is? A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain’t even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it’s 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit? Niggas always talk about the golden age but for a 13 year old kid, this is the golden age!!! That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning… that’s Nas level shit… he just put it over some steel drums which is also some Nas shit if you had the 2nd album cassette with the bonus track “Silent Murder” on it. In closing… new niggas get ya money$$$$$$$$$$ Keep this shit fresh and original…. ain’t no fuckin’ rules to this shit and that’s what real hip hop is to me. - Kanye West

Now Kanye is rolling with Soulja Boy on this one. So basically if you spit on a record, loop it over a few times now you are Hip-Hop. Vanilla Ice is hip-Hop, hell if you come from the hood, make your own beats then you too can be hip hop. It doesn’t matter if you have any love for the culture, this genre of music. But clearly this is where the industry meets the culture, Soulja boy is what the industry has made. Times are changing so to say everything that is new is wack is proposterous. But for Kanye West to compare Soulja Boy to Nas is outrageous. Matter fact I am forgetting that Kanye goes on tirades and this was definitely one of them.

Grandma Jailed: Beat Yo Damn Kids

Friday, June 20th, 2008

As you will read in the story below a grandmother was jailed for beating her 16 year old grandaughter who she caught having sex with another female. Let me say this again, the grandmother was jailed for beating her daughter who she caught having sex in her home that she pays the bills for.

Child Protective Services may close the blog down today because I say “BEAT THAT CHILD!” I’m 24 years old and if I get caught tomorrow having sex in my mother’s house, there will be hell to pay. Once again I am 24 years old however I have enough respect and I know better than to try and have sex in my parent’s home. I know the consequences, my mother wouldn’t play that at all.

More people need to beat their disrespectful kids, I do not agree with excessive beating but in my day I was beat with switches, extension cords, rulers. My parents picked up whatever was in hands distance. I never ended up in the hospital and I also learned valuable lessons, respect and the difference between right and wrong. The problem today is people don’t beat their kids. It’s not politically correct, hence we have rising incarceration rates because children are going out committing stupid crimes because they do not know any better.

The lesson today is: BEAT YOUR KIDS, YOU MAY SAVE THEM FROM THE COPS BEATING YOUR KIDS OR EVEN WORST JAILING YOUR KIDS!

Reading woman jailed in beating of granddaughter, 16

By Jason A. Kahl
Reading Eagle

Reading, PA - A 61-year-old city woman was arrested by Reading police for beating her granddaughter with a cane and belt after finding the girl in bed with another female teenager from the neighborhood, investigators said Saturday.

Joyce Y. Beddell of the 600 block of North Front Street was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail after arraignment before Senior District Judge Richard Gatti. Reading police charged Beddell with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.

Beddell’s 16-year-old granddaughter suffered serious bruises to her legs and buttocks during the assault, which occurred Thursday about 5 p.m. in the residence they shared, police said.

Beddell beat the teenager with her cane until it broke, police said.

The girl’s name was not released by police, who said she was in severe pain and was treated in Reading Hospital for unspecified injuries.

Investigators gave this account:

The granddaughter had just finished having sex with another 16-year-old girl and was in an upstairs bedroom. Beddell walked in and found them together.

The neighborhood girl ran out of the house to her nearby home while Beddell was beating her granddaughter with the cane.

Neighbors said they saw Beddell leave the house a short time later. She was accompanied by her limping granddaughter. The two of them went to the other girl’s house to tell her mother what they had been doing.

Beddell returned to her home with her granddaughter and continued to beat her with a belt. Police were called to the house to investigate a report of child abuse.

The girl had noticeable injuries to her legs, and police took her to the hospital.

Beddell told police that she had done nothing wrong and said she should have been allowed to discipline her granddaughter as she saw fit.

Sharon Stone says Earthquake was Karma’s way of getting back at China

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

sharon stone

I’m, you know, not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And so, I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do about that because I don’t like … that. And then I’ve been, this, you know, concerned about, oh, how should we deal with the Olympics, because they’re not being nice to the Dali Lama who is a good friend of mine. And then all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?” Sharon Stone

china earthquake

Thousands of people have died and Sharon Stone has the nerve to make such a statement. I am baffled by people’s disregard for tragedies and their lack of respect for the people who lose their lives to such conditions. The people of China do not deserve to be disrespected in this way, and we wonder why people hate Americans. This cocky way of passing judgment upon other nations and its people is disgusting!

Philly Terrorists Under Investigation

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

13 of the 15 cops that brutally beat down 3 black men last week have been placed on a leave of absence from the Philadelphia Police Department. It is believed that the police officers acted this way because they “thought” the men they pulled over were those who recently killed a police officer. A case of mistaken identity in Philly gets three black men brutally beat down - physically and mentally.

The physical abuse is apparent just by watching the 1:32 clip. However the mental anguish these young men are dealing with is immeasurable. What does it feel like to be terrorized by the people who your taxes pay to serve and protect you? How does it feel to know that this type of injustice is only tolerated because of your racial make up and socio-economic background? I hope the Philadelphia Court System does more for justice than the New York Court system was willing to do in light of this recent tragedy.
