I like what Solange did with the video, I must say I am impressed. Got a little conscious, awareness vibe to it. Something you would more expect from E. Badu. Let’s see what else the second Knowles has in store.

Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him. 2 Samuel 14: 14
In another bible I read this same verse read “All of us must die eventually. Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which can not be gathered up again. That is why God tries to bring us back when we have been separated from him. He does not sweep away the lives of those he cares about - and neither should you!” The first thing that stood out to me was the analogy of life and water. I thought of how when a cup spills onto the ground, the water soaks in whether it is concrete or soil. You know I like metaphors so I started thinking about how in a perfect world life would be more like a counter top and we could run some of the water off the edge back into the cup but this is not the case. Life is like the concrete, jagged at times, smooth at others. It can be like the soil, plentiful for growth or it can bury you alive.
Just made me think about how when a moment is gone, it is what it is! That moment is gone, we can not live life by the water that is spilled but more by the moments we still have left to live. Making the best out of those opportunities. I like how it speaks of God bringing us back when he feels we have been separated, it shows the compassion the Lord has for us. That he will continue to protect us if we allow him to, he will not just discard us as if we never existed. All in all from today’s verse I recognize that life is short and we must make the most of every moment that we have, fill our days with love and glory. Set out to accomplish what will make you feel whole, what will make you feel warm in heart. And while doing so if we make mistakes, let’s be thankful that we have a God who will continue to hold us down. How will we hold him down? Peace and Grace be unto you!

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children- with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. Psalm 103: 13-18
We flourish like a flower of the field, our beauty sits for all to see. But just like that it’s gone, and its place remembers it no more, those who marveled at the flower forget the flower was even there. What was the source of the beauty, was it genuine, was it God filled or was it an arrogant self loving flower, one with no regard for the flowers around it or the insects who wanted to taste its sweet nectar to live. Forgive me I’m listening to Miles Davis as I write this, him and Coltrane make me want to sound prolific and artsy lol.
What I like about the this scripture is God sees us from dust to dust. Our whole life span is watched through his eyes, our highs, our lows, whatever they may be he sees them. Sometimes we feel on top of the world but when we do without giving the proper thanks we can find the rug stripped right from under us. Those who were there popping bottles with us are suddenly not there anymore, they remember us no more. But the word says the Lord’s love is everlasting, that not only will we live good under his care but our children’s children as well. Just because we chose to recognize that there is a being that is supreme to us and we allow others to see that in us. We hold true to the principles that he lays out for us, living righteously, caring for one another, and just spreading love and his words of kindness and nobility. I think then and only then can we be that beautiful flower, and no winds or any type of creature can remove us from our splendor, if that makes sense. Peace and Grace be unto you.
This and that palm tree, from which one will you tear a leaf; Here and there a road, which one will you take?

I have been following this story on the blogs and I just finished reading an article on CNN about it. The gentleman Joshua Packwood had this to say about some of his peers “They approached me and said, ‘Yeah, I have a problem with you being valedictorian. I know you’ve earned it and even though I know you on a personal level - I like you a lot - but it disturbs me that out of roughly 3,000 black men - there’s not one that’s done as well as or better than you academically,’ ” says Packwood.
I think that’s the wrong way to look at this situation. The young man comes from an impoverished family and if there is one thing I know America hates just as much as Black people, it’s poor whites. I remember being a kid and watching Roots, there’s a scene in there, it escapes me now. But it alluded to poor whites and black folks banding together in the south.
I’m indifferent about this gentleman, I think his success is something to be marveled at no matter what his race is. Typically when there is a comparison about black and white children and their academic success we look to the failed school systems in urban areas that produce young black children and the well equipped schools of the suburbs that produce young white children. There is a learning gap, not because black children are not smarter but because there is a lack of quality teachers and access to resources in said public schools.
Packwood’s story is interesting though because he grew up poor, lacking privilege and it was actually a black middle class family who helped him get to where he is today. I don’t like the idea of brothers diminishing their own efforts because a white man is the valedictorian of their school. As someone else said later on in the article, the gentleman of Morehouse need to work harder. Not because white boys are taking their spots but because the work ethic that they create for themselves makes them want to work harder! Congratulations to Joshua Packwood on his accomplishment.

As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside by begging. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by. And he cried out, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me! And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me! And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, what do you want me to do for you? He said, Lord, let me recover my sight. And Jesus said to him, Recover your sight; your faith has made you well. And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
– Luke 18: 35-43
Good morning, I had to read this one a few times because at first all I saw was the man recovering his sight by way of his faith. However, when I looked a little deeper I saw so much more and I wanted to share my thoughts. Things were running through my head, like our destiny, and the journey we must travel to get there.
He cried out for Jesus because he knew that he could help him. Men sat right there and knew that the man needed help yet they rebuked him. Here a man in need is almost turned away by his fellow man despite his cries for help. Think about your dreams, think about when you are in need and some people try to hold you back, they don’t help push your dreams forward instead they attempt to hold you back. Should you stop! The man didn’t stop, he cried louder, cried out for the Lord louder. Here the man shows how determined he is, he knows the works of Jesus; he knows that this moment right now may change his life. He won’t allow any adversity to stop him from reaching his destiny, that’s what his cries represent to me.
Jesus heals him, but his words are so real, your faith has made you well. Your faith; what you believe in is how you reach your destiny, that is how we achieve. Believing in the creator, having faith that we do not exist here alone, the man had faith in the power of the Lord and he was healed. He didn’t take that healing and go chill, like “I’m good”. Instead he followed in the way of the lord, giving praise to God. He took the blessing the Lord gave him and showed it to everyone who could see so that they could know the power of the Lord. Sometimes when we read a passage like this, I know I imagine a dirt road, and from that point on this man followed Jesus around. But today I looked at it like he followed in the ways of Jesus; he followed in the teachings, and allowed his new sight, him reaching his destiny to be a testament of the Lord’s work. We get blessings everyday, when we are blessed maybe we should take from this man and show others the blessing so that they too can be blessed. I like how the man went on to show others his blessing despite the fact that others had tried to keep him from his blessing. Peace and Grace be unto you!
A man with too much ambition cannot sleep in peace.
