911 Operator tells woman “I don’t give a shit what happens to you”

Friday, May 16th, 2008

it’s really sad that in today’s world that the people who our taxes pay to serve and protect us do just the opposite. I have to find some heroic police story to update folks with because lately all I see is police brutality, mishandling of information and other nonsense from the boys in blue. It’s disheartening!

Today we are blessed with not one but three photos of our fallen hero Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his beautiful family. We often only see Dr. King through the lens of the transcendent leader; these photos allow us to see the softer, more gentle side of our hero. A dutiful husband, and caring father; these photo’s capture MLK in his sincerest joy, family time!

Inspiration

Today’s Inspiration is a photo of a young man who was able to fulfill one of his many dreams recently. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his ability to invoke dreams and goals within the people of this nation I want to highlight this young man for having a dream and reaching it. Below is a photo of this young man and his hero Muhammad Ali. While at the Muhammad Ali Center, the young man and his mother saw Mrs. Ali and by the grace of God and the belief in following one’s dreams they asked if they could meet “THE GREATEST” himself. Well as Dr. King has taught us dreams can come true, let’s continue to push our youth to believe that they can achieve anything that they put their hearts and minds too.

Pardon me

How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest-
and poverty will come on you like a bandit
and scarcity like an armed man. Proverbs 6: 9-11

How long will we lie in our self pity? How long will we serve as a reminder of what potential energy is? When will we take action and become the dream that we desire to be? These are the questions that came to my mind when I read this passage. When the word speaks of this sleep, this slumber, our hands folded and rested, I see death! The death of our dreams, the death of our ambition and goals. How long? We must awake ourselves from this sleep, we must awake ourselves from pity and do all that is in our power to achieve our greatness. No longer can we look to heroes and be amazed at their presence while not leaving our own eternal footprint in the sand.

Jesus, was a great man, a noble man. In his time he did great things, whether you choose to believe the stories of this man or not is irrelevant. What are you doing to get closer to such a being, to be of such nobility, to provide inspiration and sight to the blind people of our society. What are we doing to achieve our goals? Having dealt with rough times, I ask myself all of these questions. My response to myself is to stand tall, with my head up and shoulders broad. My response to myself is to believe in myself so that I can achieve. Most of all, my response to myself is to trust in God, to ask him for the strength to wake up, for the strength to be free from hopelessness. Today marks a new day, this second marks a new second, a chance for us to awake from whatever vices we have and be the greatness we aspire to be. Self doubt, negative relationships, a lack of ambition and drive, these are just some of the issues all of us are dealing with. No longer do I want to look at our leaders of the past and marvel, instead I will take the actions that they have shown us and with the power of God build on the foundation that they have already laid. Peace and Grace be unto you!

One falls forward toward success.

Today’s inspiration is a photo of a man who has overcome many obstacles, and in the face of adversity continues to shine brighter than the brightest star. David A. Patterson recently made history by becoming the first black Governor of the state of New York. He also hails from Long Island, like myself, but none of these elements are the reason why I choose to celebrate him today. You see my mother is legally blind, and when the woman who I look up to is inspired by such a man it is inspiring to me! Inspired by his ability to achieve despite his physical handicap, inspired by his enthusiasm about his new position, today I celebrate David Patterson as an inspiration.
