Richmond, California (CNN) — Investigators say as many as 20 people were involved in or stood and watched the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl outside a California high school homecoming dance Saturday night.
By now many of you have heard of the horrific gang rape that a 15 year old girl had to endure this past Saturday night outside of a high school dance in California. Investigators are offering a reward of $20,000 to anyone who comes forward with information that will aid in the arrest and conviction of those involved in the 2 and a half hour sexual assault that the female victim had to endure.
Two teenage suspects have been jailed, but more arrests, as many as 20 total, are expected, according to a police detective.
“We will be making arrests continually as we develop probable cause,” said Richmond Police Lt. Mark Gagan. “With this number of people implicated in the incident we’re going to be making arrests on an ongoing basis.”
Communities are in an uproar about the safety of their young women. Many are asking how could this happen, and some even lament “how could this happen, in a suburban area”. It’s because the lack of respect for women in this country is not isolated to urban areas. The degradation of women has risen to an all time high, where some young men find it a rites of passage to “run a train” (partake in group sex) on young females. While some young ladies consent to this behavior, that does not stop the young women who do not consent to this behavior from being overpowered by young boys who have a lost understanding about what manhood really is.
One tweeter wrote, “gang rape would be more surprising if we didn’t have porn”. She was referring to the growing niche in the porn industry where women, both black and white are overpowered and “gang-banged” by a group of 5 men or more. The women are then forced to provide lewd acts on the men and are defiled in every way possible throughout the scene. Some sites show the woman being stomped with boots, or beer is poured all over their body in a further attempt to degrade the women.
This is not an assault on the porn industry, because one does have to at least be 18 years or older to view a pornographic film, but with the advent of the internet you have 15 year old boys watching sites like bangbus and whiteboystomp. Sadly some of them might not uderstand that porn is a fantasy fulfilling industry, no matter how sick the fantasy is. Not necessarily meant to be taken serious, or as films with stunts let their viewers know, ‘don’t try this at home’. As a culture we have to dig deeper and understand what type of things are influencing our children and why they would want to behave in this manner.
20 people were involved in this attack on a young, helpless girl, savagely raping her, ruining her perception of her self worth, possibly forever. Some rape victims never recover after such an ordeal. What can we do to stop this type of grotesque activity from happening in our communities? First we can start by promoting an an open dialogue about women, their bodies, and what role a “real man” plays with his counterpart.
We need to dispell the myth that women are only for the pleasure of men, that their desires and bodies are to be trampled by the strong and hearty man. We have to discuss the types of images that are pervading our youngsters minds. We can’t be blind to the fact that underage high school students are watching these sorts of false realities and are happy to make them come true. We have to discuss the rape of women, we can no longer sit quietly while governments use rape as a tactic of war or while men in our communities use it as a fulfillment of their manly power.
