Help Arthur get to Rochester

Friends and Family,

Happy new Year, Happy MLK Day and happy Tuesday. I hope you enjoyed your 3 day weekend, if you had a 3 day weekend. I am writing this message to you on behalf of my younger brother Arthur K. Mack Jr. I couldn’t have asked for a more accomplished little brother. He’s been on the honor roll since 6th grade, he’s a member of the National Honor Society and the debate team at my old high school, Copiague High School. He was recently accepted to St. John’s University and St. Rose College in Albany. We are patiently waiting on word from my Alma Mater, Temple University, to say we are blessed is an understatement.

Arthur, I call him Man, is now a regional finalist in the NYS DECA Competition. He now has the opportunity to compete on the state level in Rochester NY. This accomplishment makes me smile even harder because while I was in high school, I too was a member of DECA and went on this same trip and it changed my life. Interacting with other student leaders helped shape the leader in me, and made it easier for me to transition to Temple and jump right in and be a leader on my campus. Below, Arthur has penned a letter asking for your support in helping him get to Rochester for the State Competition and hopefully on to the National Competition, any support you can offer in these tough economic times will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Arthur goes to RochesterDear Sir/Madam:

Hello my name is Arthur Mack, I am a senior at Copiague High School in Copiague, N.Y. Since my freshman year in High School I have been a member of our business club D.E.C.A. (Distributive Educational Clubs of America). I recently competed in the Quick Serve Restaurant Management division of the regional competition at Suffolk Community College on January 6, 2010. I am pleased to share the good news with you that I won the competition, and I am now eligible to compete on the state level in Rochester, N.Y.

DECA is an association of marketing and business students who get “hands-on” experience learning how to run a business. The New York State DECA Career Conference and Competition will take place in Rochester, New York on March 10-12. In all the years that I have been involved this is the first time that I have had this opportunity and I am really excited to compete and also meet like minded students as we all prepare for college. I believe I have a great chance at winning and possibly making it to the national competition! The total cost of this experience is $750, which has to be paid by this Friday, January 22, 2010. I am $450 away from my goal and need all of the support I can get. I would greatly appreciate if you would make a small donation in my name so that I can get to Rochester, win the state competition and then go on to the national competition. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Sincerely,

Arthur Mack

Quote of The Week:

You know you are beginning to come to life when the self-accusing spirit begins to nag you when you do that which is not right. When you lay down at night and something starts jabbing you, saying you know you should not have done that, that means you are coming alive morally. Do not kill that spirit.
