I can’t say that I’ve ever listened to a full Kelly Rowland album in my life so I’m not really at liberty to speak on her body of work outside of her singles. Her newest single “Dirty Laundry” off her forthcoming album “Talk A Good Game” due in stores June 18, co-written and produced by the Dream is her most personal and revealing single that she’s recorded to date. Possibly the most personal she’s ever been on wax, she reveals a very different side of herself in this song.

It’s a chilling story, Kelly’s chilling story about depression, domestic violence and her isolation from some of her closest family members including her mother and Beyonce. While media outlets have ran with the story and titled it, “Kelly goes in on Beyonce“, that is the farthest thing from the truth. Controversy sells I guess but it’s disheartening that a woman would pour her soul out to her fans about being in the darkest place of her life and the outlets who claim to cover music would rather focus on selling drama between the two former Destiny’s Child members.

Don’t get me wrong, Beyonce’s name comes up throughout the song. Kelly details how it was bittersweet watching her sister soar while she wallowed in an abusive relationship and had failed to make any real noise on the charts.

“When my sister was on stage / killing it like a mother fucker / I was in a rage / feeling it like a motherfucker,” she sings, later adding, “Post-’Survivor,’ she on fire / Who wanna hear my bullshit?”

I’m sure we can forgive Kelly for being” human” and having the courage to discuss a very vulnerable place in her life as well as share her insecurities. Later in the song Kelly goes into detail about her abusive relationship when she sings,

“Hitting the window like it was me / And still it shattered. He pulled me out and said ‘Don’t nobody love you but me / Not your mama / Not your daddy / and especially not Bey.’”

I hope this song serves as a catalyst for other women in abusive relationships who may have ostracized themselves from their loved ones for an abusive lover to get back with those who truly care for you. I hope someone finds the strength to look in the mirror and find themselves in this song and say enough is enough. It’s a powerful song, a very chilling song as you picture someone who seems to have it all wallowing on the floor in a state of depression and putting her make up on just in time to front for the public. That image is heartbreaking. I salute Kelly for the courage to share.

Check out Eva Said It where she talks about “battered person syndrome“, something Kelly Rowland and so many other women suffer from everyday.

Last week on #TheFreeSafetyExperiment, me and DJ Run P. had the pleasure of interviewing West Philadelphia’s own, Newz Huddle. While we kept it cordial as usual, we were also able to get a really in depth conversation with Newz Huddle about the gun violence and despair ravaging Philadelphia. In addition to having a special guest, definitely listen in for more comedic banter about everything from Kanye West’s new album and Game of Thrones to “arrogant niggers” and the future of soundcloud.

This dude charlamagne, man this dude is a different type of sucker dude. & I’m not trying to deflect anything away from me today. I seen this dude Charlamagne do an interview on vibe magazine on Jason Collins talking about he’s riding with him, he supports gay people, he’s in for gay people. Them dudes over there at that morning show do gay bashing segments. They have done actual skits bashing gays. Charlamagne, Envy, Angela Yee and Envy is my man, I have no issue with Envy but they have done gay bashing skits. Charlamagne, you cannot go to vibe magazine and say you’re riding for Jason Collins when you have done actual gay bashing skits on your show.

What do you think about Mr. Cee trying to turn the gay community against Power 105 while possibly not being honest about his own relationship to the LGBT community?
